It is reactionary to use today the historic title of religious class privilege ‘Reverend’, and doubly so for humanists to validate not only the inherent classism in the title but also the higher metaphysical valuation of a fellow human being.
Class & privilege, esp. within UUAism, are relatively new issues for UUs, and come after Sinkford‘s, Muir‘s & even Nieuwejaar‘s comments on our UU lexicon. classism isn’t a principle i would expect to receive any critical self-reflection in Annapolis given its fundamental social basis in class.
Just saying ‘Reverend’ doesn’t have any place in humanism. UU or otherwise.
