How curious that a google search for ‘uu+humanist+congregation‘ turns up 0 hits in the top 10 (although it does show the Chattanooga Humanist Assembly [yay!] that meets at the local UU Church, and a paid ad for the Minneapolis Unitarian Society, humanist since 1916). Even making it a more generic search – ‘unitarian+universalist+humanist‘ – turns up … nothing.
Where have all the UU humanists gone?!
In 2014 the American Humanist Association printed an article by the UU Humanist Association in Connecticut that called UU congregations a ‘Habitat for Humanism‘. If that were actually true, i’d expect to see at least some UU congregations show up in a search for UU humanism. But … nothing.
Luckily the UUHA is on it – they have a UU Humanists Local Groups List, and soon? a list of UU congregations that have actually taken a Freethinker-Friendly pledge. (‘Freethinker’ here = atheists, agnostics, humanists, non-theists.)
I look forward to some discussion about organizing to resist and complement the UUA’s & UUMA’s control of UU religious thought by pushing their gene®i© ‘worship’, ‘faith’, ‘spirit’ and ‘Reverend’ christomystic language in all of their media and to all UU congregations.
